A procedure that permanently moves protruding ears closer to the head.

An otoplasty procedure can be beneficial for patients who have genetically large ears that also stick out from the head. This surgery can simultaneously reduce the size and correct the angle the ear protrudes from the head. The earFold procedure, which is an alternate approach to an otoplasty and produces similar results, may be less invasive but cannot account for adjustment in ear size and may not help patients whose ear projection originates from any place other than the antihelix. 

Before an otoplasty surgery, the ear will be cleansed and injected with a local anesthetic. Depending on the extent of the procedure the patient may also be sedated or placed under general anesthesia. An incision will be placed behind the ear to expose the ear cartilage. Next, the cartilage will be removed and shaped to a smaller size. If a substantial amount of cartilage is removed, the surgeon will likely also have to remove excess skin. Once the ideal size is achieved the angle will be perfected to be closer to the sides of the head. The incisions will be closed and bandages applied.

The earFold implant is a small device used to push the ears towards the head to reduce a protruding appearance. This treatment is less invasive than the traditional otoplasty, or ear pinning, that removes pieces of ear cartilage and leaves patients with a larger scar behind the ear. This procedure also has the advantage of a non-surgical pre-implant that shows patient's what their results will look like before the actual implant is in place. 

On the day of surgery, the ear will be thoroughly cleansed and a local anesthetic will be injected into the ear cartilage. Once the area is completely numbed the area, a small incision will be made where the implant will be inserted, about 1 centimeter in length. The skin will be lifted away from the ear, revealing the underlying ear cartilage. The implant will be placed and released to the predetermined fold, creating a more desirable ear shape for the patient. The procedure, which takes approximately 20 minutes, will finish by re-draping the skin over the implant, closing the incision with dissolvable stitches, and applying a small adhesive dressing.

This procedure aims to repair a stretched or torn earlobe and greatly improve ear proportions and facial aesthetics.

Earlobe surgery is one of several procedures done to improve the shape, size, or contour of the ears. Earlobe surgery is done specifically to correct tears or splits in the earlobe caused by trauma whereas a similar surgery, earlobe reduction, is performed when the skin on the earlobe begins to droop and sag. This surgery can correct partial, full, or multiple tears in the ear. Partial tears are commonly caused when a pierced ear is elongated and stretched with large gauges or heavy earrings.  Full tears occur when the bottom lobe of the ear is completely separated. Multiple tears are caused by either external trauma or when multiple earring holes are torn completely through the bottom lobe. 

Before surgery begins, the area will be cleansed and marked for the planned excision. The earlobe will be infiltrated with a local anesthetic to provide comfort for the patient during the simple 10-15 minute procedure. If the tear in the lobe is partial and does not break through the bottom of the ear, the elliptical tear will be excised and sutured.  If the tear is in the lower third of the earlobe, your provider may extend the tear completely through the ear, excise the skin, and suture the ear into a pointed shape.

Earlobe Surgery

An earlobe surgery or earlobe repair is a plastic surgery to correct a torn earlobe or split earlobe for improved appearance, facial symmetry, and proportions.

Ears that protrude abnormally from the head can greatly affect confidence and self esteem. While prominent ears can be hidden with long hairstyles or hats, it is only a temporary solution. There are several cosmetic surgeries for ears that stick out, such as the traditional otoplasty and the earFold device. However, the incisionless Fritsch otoplasty technique is less invasive and still produces permanent results. 

The incisionless otoplasty, also called a scarless otoplasty, utilizes sutures placed discreetly behind the ear to manipulate the cartilage to a more aesthetically pleasing position. Most patients who desire changes in their ear position will not be a candidate for this minimally invasive procedure as it can only accomplish mild adjustments and is best suited for children and teenagers. 

During the procedure, only local anesthesia is needed. Younger patients may not be able to tolerate sitting still for long periods of time and may require general anesthesia in order to reduce anxiety and allow the surgeon to complete the procedure. Once thoroughly anesthetized, the procedure will begin. Using a small needle, a puncture will be made in the front of the ear on the antihelical fold. The needle will be used to scrape and score the ear cartilage for easier advancement and encourage scar production postoperatively. Next, sutures will be placed in a rectangle pattern on the back of the ear, skillfully manipulating skin and cartilage to pull the ear closer to the head. Depending on the degree of protrusion, several sutures may be needed in order to create the desired effect. 

A wrap will be applied to the head postoperatively. Most patients are recovered within 7-10 days and return to full activity within 3 weeks.

An incisionless Fritsch otoplasty is a cosmetic ear surgery alternative to an earFold or otoplasty (ear-pinning procedures) that corrects protruding ears without incisions or alterations of ear cartilage.

Unwanted Hair

The only permanent form of hair removal is electrolysis. While other methods of hair removal such as laser hair removal or IPL treatments may be known for making unwanted hair disappear, these treatments only slow down the growth of hair. Some individuals may turn to treatments such as waxing or threading for their cost effectiveness, however the monetary savings will never amount to permanent hair removal. 

There are three different forms of electrolysis, the first being galvanic. Galvanic hair removal uses a chemical reaction to destroy hair. The fine probe used to slide into the hair follicle is as thin as a piece of hair. The galvanic method utilizes a direct current through the probe to create a reaction to help the hair break away from other components, never to join again.

It is similar to an electrical current in a chemistry experiment that separates salt water into its basic components. As such, the galvanic method uses the saline base of hair follicles to help sodium hydroxide, hydrogen gas, and chlorine gas form, with the sodium hydroxide assisting in the destruction of the hair follicle.

The galvanic process can be slow and time-consuming, taking approximately two to three minutes to get rid of one hair follicle. It's for this reason that the method isn't used as often and works best on thick and coarse hair, like body or male facial hair.

The second method of electrolysis is thermolysis. Like the name implies, the thermolysis method works to deliver heat energy to the hair follicle to get rid of it. Is electrolysis technically defined as thermolysis? No, because thermolysis doesn't use two electrodes, an external circuit, or electrolytic cell to send electric currents. Nevertheless, thermolysis is electrolysis in the vernacular of the cosmetic procedure all the same, when people discuss this second method of performing electrolysis.

Instead, thermolysis creates heat at the base of the hair follicle when the needle sends high-frequency vibrations to the hair follicle and produces heat that takes only seconds to remove each hair.

Galvanic electrolysis hair removal is more effective than thermolysis, but the thermolysis method is faster, with the electrocoagulation of thermolysis working best on fine hair destruction. 

Third method of electroylsis combines the previous two techniques into what is known as the "blend" method. The blend method takes the best of both worlds and uses the galvanic electrolysis and thermolysis methods blended together as one to remove hair. Currents create sodium hydroxide while vibrations cause heat energy to be disbursed, taking only seven seconds or so to destroy each hair.

Also known as the "dual-action method," the blend method is quicker than the galvanic process, and more effective than thermolysis alone.

During the endoscopic brow lift, several small incisions of approximately 3-4 cm in length are made 2cm behind the hairline recession at a location that is determined by the outer corner of the eye and the temporal line in the skull. Incisions are made to allow for access to the region. A thin tube known as an endoscope is then inserted through one of the resulting incisions. Attached to the end of the endoscope is a small camera, which allows the surgeon to clearly see the muscles and tissue underneath the forehead. Then the surgeon will use a secondary tool such as a bone tunnel or fixation device to lift the forehead skin into a separate incision. Excess tissue and fat is then removed. If necessary, the muscles are then realigned and the eyebrows may be placed at a higher level.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift uses small cameras during surgery to increase visualization for the surgeon while reducing the size of incisions, giving patients smaller scars and a shorter recovery time. Like other methods of brow lifts, an endoscopic brow lift leads to a more youthful appearance by correction of a heavy or sagging brow.
