About Thomas R. O'Brien, DDS
Dr. O’Brien received his dental degree from the University of Texas, Houston Dental Branch, and did his undergraduate work at Texas A&M University. He has been a private practice Houston dentist at his current location since he graduated. In addition to his practice of general dentistry, which includes all aspects of general and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. O’Brien has been treating dental trauma and sports related dental-facial injuries for over 25 years. He is currently the Team Dental Consultant for the Houston Rockets, a position he has held for the past 27 years, as well as the Team Dentist for the Houston Texans, the Houston Dynamo, Houston Baptist University, University of Houston, and the WWE in Houston. Dr. O’Brien is an active member of the Academy of Sports Dentistry, the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Greater Houston Dental Society, and the Academy of Laser Dentistry. Dr. O’Brien’s greatest joy is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, and he feels like dentistry is his ministry. He is a founding Director and President of the Honduras Dental Project and volunteers his time visiting Honduras, Central America, annually to provide dental services to those who need them most. Exams, cleanings, fillings and general dental care are offered to orphaned children and needy families. In 2007, Dr. O’Brien’s team successfully built a dental clinic in Honduras that will help more than 4,000 needy children and families. Dr. O’Brien and his wife, Karen, have three sons, Tom Jr. and his wife Catherine of Houston, and Taylor and Tyler, who reside in Austin, TX. He also has five beautiful granddaughters; Emily, Caroline, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Sarah Marguerite.
