About Gary W. Mayfield, DDS
Hi, I'm Gary Mayfield. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in Alvin and graduated from Alvin High School in 1976. I attended University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1980. When I was interviewing for dental school, I was asked, ""Why do you want to be a dentist?"" I told them that I had a lawn mowing business when I was in college and I knew I wanted to work for myself, but I also knew I didn't want to work outside mowing lawns all the time because it's too hot. I liked science, I enjoyed working with my hands and I liked people so dentistry seemed a good fit. Little did I know that it would be a career that I would love. On the personal side, while I was at UT, I started dating my future wife, Cathy. We got married right after college and have been married for over thirty years. Along the way, we had three children and have loved them to pieces. I also got to learn a lot of humility because before we had kids, I thought raising them would be easy. It has been the best thing in my life, but I sure had a lot to learn. Along the way, I have gotten to do something I thoroughly enjoy – I have gotten to be a dentist! Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to attend outstanding postdoctoral educational studies in orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry. Attending the Zimmer Institute for postgraduate education on implants has enabled me to continue to increase my knowledge in the area of dental implants. I have been able to take courses from nationally renowned teachers in endodontics on various topics including how to do root canals well and painlessly. Participating in mission trips to various parts of Mexico, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Brazil have given me a great opportunity to fellowship with native people as well as my fellow travelers. But beyond all the education and mission trips, the thing that I enjoy the most is the relationships I have been able to develop with my patients and my staff over my career. A word about my staff, WOW! The people that I work with are professional, knowledgeable, warm, compassionate and caring. They truly have hearts to serve. The team works together to make our office run efficiently and compassionately. It has truly been my pleasure to work with them while taking care of our patients. I hope to see you soon and welcome you to our practice.
