About Affaf S. Ismail, DDS
Dr. Ismail believes in patient-centered healthcare. She tailors holistic plans to the unique needs and desires of each individual. When it comes to her technique, Dr. Ismail is a meticulous dentist who strives to empower her patients and provide the highest quality oral healthcare possible. During treatments, she prides herself on having a very gentle touch. Patients love working with Dr. Ismail because of her friendly and professional demeanor. By incorporating the latest advancements in dental technology into her treatments, she provides each of her patients with dentistry that exceeds their expectations and optimizes their overall health. Dr. Ismail continuously strives to expand her knowledge through extensive continuing education courses on cosmetic dentistry, implants, ozone therapy, holistic dentistry and Invisalign®. As a skilled dentist, Dr. Ismail can help patients with removable prosthetics, pediatric dentistry, simple and surgical extractions, CEREC and complex treatment planning. For cosmetic dentistry, she can help with smile makeovers, whitening, Invisalign, veneers and implants. In addition to her rigorous continuing education courses, Dr. Ismail was an adjunct faculty member at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Chicago, teaching clinical skills to first- and second-year dental students before moving here. Her love for academia is apparent in her style of communication, explaining complex concepts in a comprehensible way to her patients. Dr. Ismail graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, rated the number one dental school in the country by QS World University Rankings in 2012. She attended an intensive one-year residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) where she received experience in aesthetic and restorative dentistry. During her education and the years following, she attained several esteemed awards. Dr. Ismail has lived all over the world, but recently left Chicago to become a proud San Diegoian! Outside of work, her devotion to the community and others is reflected in her commitment to volunteering. She has worked with the Health Point Foundation and the Syrian American Medical Society performing dental care for refugees in Greece, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine. She is currently helping underserved parents in the San Diego area navigate remote learning through the COVID-19 pandemic. She enjoys cooking delicious and creative food for her family (including her young daughter), learning about art history and running long distances.
