About Steven L. Yarbrough, DDS
Dr. Yarbrough, an Austin Dentist, is a 1972 graduate of St. Mary’s University (Magna Cum Laude) with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas at San Antonio graduating in the top ten percent of his graduating class and was then accepted to a GPR (General Practice Residency) in the United States Air Force at David Grand Hospital in Fairfield, CA. By attending the GPR program, Dr. Yarbrough completed a hospital dentistry rotation, advanced training in Sedation Dentistry (IV/Oral), Wisdom Teeth Extractions, Implant Placement, Tissue/Bone Grafting, Periodontal Surgery and Advanced Root Canal Therapy. Dr. Yarbrough began private practice in Austin in 1979. He is a member of both the American Dental Association (ADA) and Texas Dental Association (TDA). Dr. Yarbrough also completed a Preceptorship in Oral Implantology at the University of Texas in addition to advanced training in Implant Surgery at the Zimmer Institute in San Diego, CA. Dr. Yarbrough is a gifted dentist and is respected by his peers in Austin and throughout the country. Dr. Yarbrough has earned Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). To earn Fellowship in the AGD, dentists must take more than 500 hours of educational courses in various areas of dentistry. Candidates also must pass a rigorous exam. The award is then presented to general dentists in a formal ceremony. Dr. Yarbrough is one of only 7 percent of AGD dentists who have achieved this honor. This organization represents a small group of general dentists who are dedicated to professional development and continuing education. All AGD members must remain current with advances in the profession to provide quality patient treatment. A general dentist who is a “Fellow” in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) has been recognized by other general dentists as a leader and an example to other dentists of the importance of quality continuing dental education to patient care. In addition to these Dr. Yarbrough has been recognized by both Austin Monthly and Texas Monthly as one of both Austin and the state of Texas’ outstanding dentists. When not in the office, Dr. Yarbrough can be found dodging cars on his road bike, playing cowboy on the ranch here in Central Texas or wandering the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado.
