About Arthur S. Vanderwaal, DDS
Dr. Scott VanderWaal, an Illinois native moved recently to Houston to be closer to his wife’s family and to raise his new son in the wonderful state of Texas. He threw out his snow shovel for new shorts and sunglasses. Dr. VanderWaal received his Bachelor of Science in biology from Illinois Wesleyan University. He then went on to attend the University of Illinois Chicago where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Dr. VanderWaal then continued his education at University of Michigan Hospital, where he obtained a General Practice Residency certificate. This additional training in emergency dentistry, medically complex patients, head and neck cancer, and implant dentistry expanded his expertise in dentistry to provide better care for his patients. The son of an orthodontist, Dr. VanderWaal’s first job was working as his father’s assistant. As he witnessed how improving peoples’ smiles impacted their lives for the better, he realized he wanted to become a dentist. Dr. VanderWaal loves practicing dentistry because every day is unique where he can spend time creating individualized treatment plans for his patients to help them obtain their dental goals. Dr. VanderWaal not only has years in private practice as a cosmetic dentist, he has also worked in public health to provide care for adults and children with significant dental needs. His resume shows that he strives to be a dentist for all ages and dental needs and cares to always be exposed to new experiences. Outside the office, Dr. VanderWaal enjoys spending time with his wife, Stephanie, and son, Leo. He seeks to always be curious and learn new things by reading and meeting new people. He believes in living a healthy life by staying active and enjoying his time with family and friends.
