About the Procedure
SlimLipo, which stands for selective laser induced melting, combines tumescent liposuction techniques with the additional benefits of laser energy for improved body contouring results. Laser assisted liposuction techniques, like radiofrequency and water assisted liposuction, allow for a more efficient procedure with greater fat volume removal in shorter times. By melting the fatty deposits before removal, there is less surrounding tissue damage meaning a shorter recovery time for patients. Before the procedure begins, the patient will have the treatment areas marked while standing. During the procedure the patient will lay comfortably on a table and will only require a local anesthetic in the form of tumescent fluid. An incision will be made near the treatment area, typically around 2mm in length so that a cannula can be inserted. This cannula will infiltrate the treatment area with the tumescent solution made of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine. The fluid not only numbs the area, but also reduces bleeding and expands the tissue for less surrounding tissue trauma. Next, the SlimLipo probe will be inserted into the incision and stroked in a back and forth motion in a fan pattern. The tip of the SlimLipo probe emits laser energy which melts adipose tissue for easier aspiration as well as encourages postoperative skin tightening. Once the fat in the treatment area has been emulsified, a suction cannula will be inserted to vacuum away the adipose tissue. The incisions do not usually require stitches and will be covered with a simple skin adhesive. A compression garment will need to be worn to help prevent swelling and drain excess tumescent fluid. Improvement is noticeable immediately after the procedure however results will continue to improve over the course of 3-6 months.
The goal of SlimLipo is to remove unwanted body fat and provide a mild skin tightening to improve body contours.
