About the Procedure
Laser skin resurfacing has been used for decades to diminish signs of aging from the face and neck. Wrinkles and skin sagging caused by natural aging and exacerbated by sun exposure can make an individual appear older, tired, or even angry. Ablative laser skin treatment produces dramatic results, but with lengthy recovery times, some patients seek alternative procedures such as chemical peels or dermabrasion. Improvements in laser resurfacing technology, though, has made treatment and recovery easier. Fractional lasers allow for targeted treatment, allowing healthy skin to surround the micro wounds created by the laser energy. Fractional ablative lasers give patients considerable results with reasonable downtime. There are many different brands of fractional ablative lasers, with the Deka Dot system being one of them. Deka Dot, also referred to as SmartXide, has a variety of adjustable features to customize treatment for a number of patient concerns. Deka Dot is able to adjust the size and pattern of the laser treatment (square, rectangle, or circle), number of pulses/depth penetration, laser strength, as well as scanning pattern. Deka Dot can even be used in sensitive areas around the eyes for a subtle eye lift, also called a Madonna Eye Lift. Before treatment, the skin will be evaluated, cleansed, and a topical numbing cream will be applied. Once the patient is throughly anesthetized, the numbing cream will be removed and the treatment will begin. The Deka Dot laser will then be expertly applied to the treatment area, targeting uneven skin texture, irregular pigmentation, fine lines, and other skin imperfections. The laser may be applied several times over problem areas. Once the skin has been thoroughly treated, a soothing serum or ointment will be applied and a bandage may be applied to the skin.
The goal of a Deka Dot laser skin resurfacing treatment is to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, mild skin laxity, and pigmentation irregularities. Stimulated collagen production improves facial volume for a younger, more rejuvenated complexion.

Recovery after a Deka Dot laser skin resurfacing treatment is typically mild. Skin may feel red, raw, or swollen but most discomfort will subside within 7-10 days. Moisturize healing skin frequently with a hydrating ointment such as petroleum jelly. Many patients resume normal activity within 1 week. Makeup and skincare routines may be resumed once all skin peeling and crusting has stopped. To prevent irregular pigmentation always use a broad spectrum SPF to protect skin from sun exposure.
The ideal candidate for Deka Dot laser resurfacing has photo-damaged skin, pigmentation and texture irregularities, and mild wrinkling or sagging. Patients who desire a mild eye lift would also benefit from a Madonna Eye Lift using the Deka Dot laser.
Not Recommended For
Deka Dot fractional laser resurfacing is not recommended for use on darker skin tones due to risk of hypopigmentation.
Side effects from Deka Dot skin resurfacing are typically mild but may include temporary redness, peeling, and stinging sensations in treated areas, burns or other injuries from the laser's heat, scarring, changes in the skin pigmentation, and infection.
