About Thor L. Mikesell, DDS
Dr. Thor Mikesell was born in Utah, and lived in Nebraska, Wyoming, Illinois and Idaho. While attending BYU in Utah he met and married Michigan-native Christine. After graduating from BYU, Dr. Mikesell attended the University of Michigan Dental School. The first of his 5 boys was born on the day before school started. During school Dr. Mikesell volunteered for the opportunity to work in an out-of-class setting in Northern Michigan. Each year U of M serves the children of migrant workers, taking care of as many dental needs as possible in a few short weeks. There were temporary clinics set up in Kaleva, Suttons Bay and Glen Lake. The following year Dr. Mikesell signed up again, this time as an instructor in the same program. This was his first exposure to the Suttons Bay area. After passing both the Northeast Regional Boards and the Western Regional Boards, Dr. Mikesell worked for a dentist in Troy, MI. In the fall of 1999 he bought this practice. Dr. Mikesell completed an overhaul of the office building and brought it up to a professional state-of-the-art facility. He takes continuing education classes to be current with the latest techniques and skills.
