About Thomas M. Jacks, DDS
T. Matthew Jacks, DDS, FACS, is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who specializes in complex and cosmetic facial and dental reconstructive surgery. After fifteen years as an academic surgeon training over 100 dental and medical residents, he recently retired from the US Navy at the rank of Captain. During his career, he served as the Chief of Surgery at the US Naval Hospital in Sicily Italy, Surgical Liaison to NATO during the Libyan Campaign, and for the last five years of his career, the Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Walter Reed, Bethesda, Maryland. His duties included the expansion of one of the largest and most academically successful oral surgery training programs in the USA. Additionally, he was designated as the Oral Surgeon to the President of the United States and was responsible for the maxillofacial surgical rehabilitation of over 100 wounded warriors. He served as an Examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and as the Co-chair for Section I. As an ABOMS chair and examiner, he was tasked with providing editorial review for all written and oral board questions and cases involving dental implants, dentoalveolar surgery, TMJ surgery, craniofacial surgery, pathologic reconstructive surgery and odontogenic (dental) infections. He tested over 500 oral surgeons pursuing board certification. Dr. Jacks has been married to his lovely bride, Heather, since they were both 18-years-old, has four children, three dogs, a cat, and four chickens. His hobbies include whatever his wife tells him to do.
