About Steven Niergarth, DDS
Dr. Steve Niergarth is a 1985 graduate of the University of Michigan. Having grown up in Traverse City, he knew he wanted to return to our beautiful area upon graduation. He started Deerhaven Dentistry that year with one employee, and it has since grown to three dentists and over twenty employees. While very proud of the dental practice he helped to build, he is even more proud of his family. He and his wife, Lisa, have two sons, Nick and Jake, and a daughter, Natalie. He enjoys running, hiking, fishing, camping, and boating. They live near Cedar, along with son Jake, who is currently studying graphic design at Northwestern Michigan College. Nick lives and works in the area, and Natalie resides in Washington, DC. Dr. Niergarth and his wife Lisa have done numerous mission dentistry trips to Guatemala, where son Jake was born. They started a permanent dental clinic in Chichicastenango, Guatemala in 2013 and travel back there frequently. He also began the Doctors With A Heart program in Traverse City in 1999, which treats, at no charge, those who can’t afford dental care. Dr. Niergarth has been awarded Fellowships in both the Academy of Dentistry International and also the International College of Dentists. He was named a co-recipient of the Michigan Dental Association Public Service Award in 2017, for his work in helping military veterans in the area. Dr. Niergarth is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, and the Resort District Dental Society. He is an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
