About Michael Yokoyama, DDS
His professional ethics of helping his patients achieve their best health is modeled upon his father’s 50 + years of patient care in Hawaii. Dr. Yokoyama is a second - generation dentist. He was doing dental procedures and dental lab work in his father’s family dental practice during high school and college. Upon graduating from Claremont McKenna College with Honors, he attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. Dr. Yokoyama met his future wife and classmate, Jaye Venuti, in Kansas City. After graduating from UMKC, the doctors returned to Hawaii to practice dentistry. Within 2 years their dental specialty interests were honed, necessitating post-doctoral education. Dr. Venuti entered the Pediatric Dentistry Program and Dr. Yokoyama the Periodontology Program at Oregon Health Sciences University. With both doctors in residencies, it really didn’t matter if they never came home for dinner. They moved to North County San Diego and developed their respective specialty practices here. As the proud parent of two sons, Dr. Yokoyama wore many hats as a AYSO soccer coach, Y-Guides chief, Boy Scout leader, SD Dental Society committee member and of course, his periodontal practice. Dr. Venuti and Dr. Yokoyama feel very privileged to have been able to help so many families in this community over the decades. The knowledge and experience gained over these decades has shaped their approach in evaluating a patient’s whole background in diagnosing the underlying causes of the symptoms patients are experiencing now.
