About Laurie S. Gordon, DDS
Dr. Laurie Gordon discovered that she wanted to be a dentist when she had braces at age 13. That is when she realized that by changing someone's smile, a dentist can dramatically change a patient's life forever. Dr. Gordon became a dentist because she wanted to help people look and feel their best. She graduated from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1983. She continued her education at The University of Illinois College of Dentistry in Chicago, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1987. She has practiced in Blue Island since 1988. Dr. Gordon is proud to continue the family tradition of treating families in the Blue Island area and surrounding communities. Although she enjoys all aspects of dentistry, she particularly likes working on children. Along with her father, Dr. Murray Gordon, her brother, Dr. Randall Gordon, and brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Markus, the Gordon family has been providing compassionate and comprehensive care for a combined 120 years!! In addition to practicing dentistry, Dr. Gordon spends many hours each year taking continuing education courses. This enables her to bring back to her patients the most current knowledge in the field of dentistry. She is a member of numerous local and national dental organizations, including the American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society, Illinois State Dental Society, and Academy of General Dentistry, and Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity. She is proud to have been the first female President elected of the Illinois Chapter of Alpha Omega. Presently, she is a serving her 7th year as a Member at Large of the Alpha Omega Dental Foundation, which supports various dental projects and programs, in the US, Israel, as well as other countries where there are people in need. In 2008, she received the first ever Alpha Omega Foundation Meritorious Award for all her fundraising efforts on behalf of the Alpha Omega Dental Foundation. When she’s away from the office, Dr.Gordon enjoys spending time with her husband Dr. David Shaw, daughter, Jenna and son, Adam. She enjoys volunteering at her children’s schools, playing golf, attending theater and opera, and cheering on all the Chicago sports teams!
