About James A. Schenkel, DDS
James Schenkel, D.D.S. grew up in West Caldwell and attended the local schools in the area. He graduated from James Caldwell High School in 1974. In 1978 he graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in biology. He attended NYU College of Dentistry and graduated in the top 10% of his class in 1982. He completed a one year general practice residency at Mountainside Hospital in 1983. In 1986 he merged his practice with Dr. Robert McCarthy in North Caldwell and worked in Dr. McCarthy's home office for one year. He then moved his practice to its current location on Bloomfield Ave. He has been a member of the Essex County Dental Society, the NJ Dental Association and the American Dental Association for over 25 years. He has been participating in the Donated Dental Service Program since 2000. This is an organization of volunteers who provide comprehensive dental treatment to people who lack adequate income to pay for dental care and are permanently disabled, medically at risk, or are 65 years or older. He is happily married with two sons. He enjoys the outdoors and participating in some of his favorite hobbies such as bird watching, hiking, and gardening. He is also an avid sports fan and enjoys rooting for and watching the Yankees, the Giants, and the Devils respectively.
