About Collin B. Sanford, DMD
Dr. Sanford grew up and graduated from high school in Avon, Connecticut, and then completed his undergraduate education at Bethany College in West Virginia. He graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 1975. Following a two year residency in general dentistry, he joined the full-time faculty at the University of Connecticut in 1977. Dr. Sanford spent a year (1978-1979) in Gothenberg, Sweden where he trained in both periodontal therapy and extensive crown and bridge dentistry. It was there that he was exposed to early research that is now the basis for our current knowledge of implant dentistry. Upon his return from Sweden in 1979, he assumed the directorship of the General Practice Residency at the University of Connecticut and was the director of that program until 1986. Dr. Sanford opened a private practice in Avon in 1983 and remained as a part-time faculty at the dental school up until 2013 as an associate clinical professor.He is honored to have been selected by his peers as a Top Dentist in both Connecticut and Hartford Magazines. Having grown up in Avon, Dr. Sanford has participated in many civic activities in town over the years including coaching various town youth athletic teams at the time his children were involved, serving as treasurer for the A.C.O.R.N. (Avon Community Recreational Neighborhood) project to create the all-weather track at the Avon High School, and serving on various committees for other town civic organizations. He is a member of Valley Community Baptist Church where he also serves the church and community in a multitude of ways. Dr Sanford spends two weeks each year providing continuing education to dentists and physicians who are on mission field abroad. These trips alternate between Kenya, Thailand and Greece in 2014.This experience has only expanded Dr. Sanford’s desire to serve others, in the immediate locale as well as globally. He has been married to Mary Jordan Sanford for the past 39 years. They have three adult sons, two daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren. He and his wife have also been foster caregivers to a now 22-year-old young man for the past ten years. Dr. Sanford enjoys spending time with his wife; they often take long walks together. He loves to travel, play golf, do woodworking, and spend time with family and friends.
