About Fernando Pessoa, DDS
Dr. Pessoa is known for his skills in cosmetic dentistry and his comprehensive, conservative and preventive approach to dentistry. He is an artist in the field of Cosmetic and Implant dentistry and has been the recipient of many honors and achievements throughout his dental career. Dr. Fernando Pessoa is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He moved to the U.S when he was 19 years old with a volleyball scholarship to BYU, Provo. At BYU, he was a member of the 2-time National Championship Volleyball team in 2001 and 2004. On his senior year, he was also named 1st Team All-American in Volleyball. Dr. Pessoa met and married the former Megan Shupe, a BYU gymnast, in 2002. They are now parents to 3 little girls and 1 boy. Dr. Pessoa loves the outdoors. Although he misses the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, the mountains of Utah is a close second and they sure keep him entertained. He enjoys mountain biking, skiing and hiking. To maintain his competitive edge, he has participated in a few Ironman 70.3 triathlons. It's a love-hate relationship but apparently he likes the races enough to keep pursuing them. Dr. Pessoa is a graduate of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California. He received his IV sedation certification from USC in 2012 from Dr. Malamed, one of the premier dental sedation educators in the world. As a perpetual student, Dr. Pessoa takes dozens of hours of continual education every year, including being a greaduate of the Kois Center in Seattle, one of the most prestigious dental continual education centers in the world.
