About Deborah Spey, MD
Certified by the American Board of Dermatology as a Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Deborah R. Spey is licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey, where she makes her home, as well as New York. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Spey grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey where she attended the Pingry School. From childhood, she knew she wanted to be a doctor (her initials being ‘DR' helped) and follow her father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather into medicine. She was inspired to pursue a career in dermatology after watching her grandmother suffer and ultimately die from a rare and debilitating skin disease. She wanted to do something to help. As a premedical student at Yale University, Dr. Spey graduated with a B.A. in Biology. After college, she received her medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, in New York, NY. Her research at Columbia earned her the Lowenfish Prize for Dermatologic Research, awarded at her graduation. She completed her internship in internal medicine at the Presbyterian Hospital in the City of New York, where she remained for her first year of dermatology residency, before finishing her dermatology training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Spey established her own practice in 2003 with the aim of creating a dermatology office that embodied how she'd like to be treated as a patient: a compassionate, professional environment dedicated to providing state-ofthe- art care. In cosmetic dermatology, her philosophy is one of restoration rather than enhancement. She'll never tell a patient they need a cosmetic procedure unless they ask.
