About Sonia M. Espinoza, MD
Dr. Sonia Espinoza is a citizen of both Nicaragua and the United States. She received her initial general and plastic surgery training in Nicaragua, followed by an additional three-year intensive surgical program at the renowned Instituto de Cirugia Plastica y Reconstructiva de Jalisco in 1985. During this time, Dr. Espinoza also completed surgical rotations at the Institut de Chirurgie Esthetique de Montreal, the Hospital Universitaire Brugmann in Brussels, and with D. Ralph Millard, Jr., MD at the University of Miami Medical School in Miami, Florida. Practicing from offices in Orlando, Jacksonville, and Managua, she has performed a full range of comprehensive body, face, and breast aesthetic procedures for patients worldwide. For almost 30 years, Dr. Espinoza has been a pioneer of aesthetic surgery in her own country; being the first female to perform the first full body lift as well as the first female liposuction in Managua, Nicaragua in 1985. Dr. Espinoza offers her patients the opportunity of having procedures performed in her Florida offices, or in Nicaragua. Dr. Espinoza has staff privileges in several state-of-the art surgical centers in Nicaragua’s capitol, Managua. This option allows her patients to reap the economic benefits of having their procedures performed abroad, while having Dr. Espinoza accomplish pre and post-surgical care en Florida. Building on her extensive international plastic surgery training and experience, Dr. Espinoza completed the three-year Family Medicine residency program at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2006, receiving her US board certification in that specialty in 2009. Dr. Espinoza undertook this additional specialty training because she believes that plastic surgeons must fully appreciate the diverse needs of patient and family before and after aesthetic procedures have been completed. Dr. Espinoza continues to expand her knowledge of the ever changing developments in both surgical and non-surgical treatments, including injectable facial enhancements. She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Plastic Surgery Society, and the International Confederation of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Dr. Espinoza has served as a volunteer surgeon for InterPlus, contributing her surgical skills to needy patients in South America. Dr. Espinoza is fluent in both English and Spanish.
