About Sarah M. Elswick, MD
Dr. Elswick’s passion for helping people is the driving force behind her dedication to her patients. Having devoted her studies and professional training to the fields of biology, medicine, healthcare management, general surgery and plastic surgery, Dr. Elswick’s elite education, certifications, specialized training and research repertoire are vast. She originally began studying aerospace engineering and landed a role at NASA. Though an incredible experience, Dr. Elswick quickly learned that she wanted to dedicate her career and her life to working with and helping people. Medicine was a natural fit. She realized her desire to pursue plastic surgery while working in the Plastic Surgery Department at The Ohio State University. There, she saw the results of patients who had undergone breast reconstruction after mastectomy and knew she wanted to be part of restoring the lives and confidence of patients, not only when it comes to breast reconstruction, but on every area of the body regardless of patient age and gender. With a focal point on aesthetics and aesthetic reconstruction, Dr. Elswick’s research has been centered on reconstruction after cancer surgery with special interests in prepectoral breast reconstruction and the effects of radiation in breast reconstruction. Likewise, she has presented multiple times on breast and body reconstruction. Dr. Elswick has traveled the world, volunteering her time and services to people who need it most, noting that one of the most rewarding experiences in her career has been performing cleft lip and palate surgery on children in Guatemala. Maintaining a hand on the pulse of the ever-evolving plastic surgery field, Dr. Elswick performs a variety of aesthetic and reconstructive surgical and nonsurgical treatments at Dr. Schenden’s practice. She utilizes creativity and the latest technology and surgical techniques for every procedure she performs.
