About Praful M. Ramineni, MD
Dr. Praful Ramineni joins West End Plastic Surgery in Washington, D.C., with 10 years of experience as a plastic surgeon at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. As the Chief of the Division, he was clinically the busiest plastic surgeon at the hospital, seeing over 200 patients a month in the office and performing 600 to 900 surgeries a year. Dr. Ramineni has trained over 100 residents, both Georgetown plastic surgery and general surgery residents, and has multiple publications. These included both the full range of aesthetic surgery as well as complex trauma, hernias, and cancer reconstruction. He recently made the transition to focusing on his elective practice to be able to provide more personalized care to each patient. Dr. Ramineni grew up in upstate New York, where he developed a love of medicine from his father. Upon graduating from high school, he was accepted into an extremely competitive 6-year combined undergraduate/medical school program in Ohio, where he completed his 4-year undergraduate degree in just 2 years. After graduating in the top 5% of his medical school class and scoring in the top 1% of his medical licensing exams, he was accepted into one of the top plastic surgery residencies in the country at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He completed both his general surgery internship and his plastic surgery training there, and became Chief Resident before moving to Washington, D.C. in 2007 to start practicing. Dr. Ramineni has taught countless residents from the plastic surgery program at Georgetown and general surgery residents from Medstar Washington Hospital Center. He has won multiple teaching awards, including the Plastic Surgery Resident Teaching Award and the general surgery Keystone Educator Award. Dr. Ramineni has authored multiple publications and textbook chapters, has lectured nationally, and has taught multiple surgeons about complex surgical techniques. Dr. Ramineni utilizes his extensive surgical experience to treat a wide range of both aesthetic and reconstructive patients. He has a special interest in post‐weight loss body contouring, especially in post‐bariatric surgery patients, including abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), brachioplasty (arm lift), thighplasty (thigh lift), mastopexy (breast lift), and upper and lower back lifts. Dr. Ramineni also performs liposuction, lipoaugmentation of the buttocks (Brazilian butt lift), facelifts, rhinoplasty, and eyelid surgery. He also offers the full range of nonsurgical treatments, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, XEOMIN®, Dysport®, Restylane, JUVÉDERM®, JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™, JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA®, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®, RADIESSE®, KYBELLA™, laser and energy treatments, chemical peels, as well as noninvasive skin tightening with ThermiSmooth® and ThermiTight®. As the former Chief of Plastic Surgery at the largest hospital in Washington, D.C., Dr. Ramineni also brings his expertise to managing the full range of reconstructive surgical procedures, including breast cancer reconstruction with DIEP flaps, complex hernias, breast reduction, traumatic injuries, scar revisions, and many other reconstructive surgical procedures.
