About Paula S. Vogel, MD
Paula Vogel is a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, board-certified dermatologist and retired Army colonel. Prior to her training in dermatology she was a registered nurse and then a board-certified internist. Her background gives her unique qualities and insights, as well as a desire to treat each person in a holistic manner. After her dermatology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, she spent ten years as an Army dermatologist and was on the staff of the combined Army and Air force dermatology training program in San Antonio. During this time she served as the director of the dermatology laser center at Wilford Hall Medical Center. Dr. Vogel was responsible for training over 80 residents in the use of lasers for a variety of skin conditions and skin cancer surgeries. It was during this time that she became more interested in pursuing further training in skin cancer management and was selected to do a fellowship in procedural dermatology and Mohs surgery. She completed a one year intensive fellowship at Emory University in 2002 and then returned to San Antonio to take over as the Chairman of the Dermatology Department at Brooke Army Medical Center. She served in this position while also performing Mohs surgery on Army personnel and their beneficiaries from 2002 until her retirement in 2006. Dr. Vogel has been in private practice since 2006 and has been performing Mohs surgery and excisional surgery on high-risk skin cancer patients for over 15 years. She has extensive experience detecting and treating skin cancer, especially high risk skin cancers. Dr. Vogel also has experience treating patients with a variety of lasers, including fractional CO2 therapy. In addition, she enjoys optimizing her patients’ appearance through the use of dermal fillers, botulinum toxin and laser therapy. She looks forward to taking care of whatever skin needs you have.
