About Omar Shakir, MD
Dr. Shakir is the founding partner of Coastal Eye Surgeons. He is board-certified in Ophthalmology and Yale fellowship-trained, specializing in Cataract and VitreoRetinal Surgery. He serves as an Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Yale University. Highly personalized eye care and surgery is what he considers the pride of his practice. Dr. Shakir completed medical school at Albany Medical College and was part of the prestigious Leadership in Medicine program. In medical school, Dr. Shakir earned multiple ophthalmology research awards and spent time at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University doing world-class research. He furthered his medical training with internship at Johns Hopkins University and residency at the University of Florida. He then went on to complete a two-year Vitreous and Retina Surgery Fellowship at Yale University. Dr. Shakir was born and raised on the Space Coast of Florida. He left the Sunshine State after high school for the Empire State where he played Division III College Baseball and was a Liberty League Scholar-Athlete at Union College. As a Presidential scholar at Union, he graduated with honors in Political Science and Biology.
