About Mary Lou Bui, MD
I grew up nearby in San Jose and then spent a delightful four years in the East Bay at UC Berkeley for college. I enjoyed my undergraduate time with a range of classes from Art History to Peace and Conflict Studies and then went on to medical school at UCLA. In Los Angeles I discovered my interest in dermatology while volunteering at the Venice Family Clinic and working in a research lab as a medical student. After a memorable intern year at Oakland’s Highland Hospital, I moved to New York City to complete my dermatology residency at Columbia University Medical Center. I enjoyed the intense clinical training there where we routinely took care of patients from many different backgrounds with a dramatic range of dermatologic conditions. NYC was a great adventure, but I’ve always considered the Bay Area my home and I’m happy to return here to be a part of Kaiser Permanente. I chose to work at Kaiser Permanente because I truly believe in the medical system here and the emphasis on high quality, comprehensive care, preventative medicine and health maintenance. I also appreciate the opportunity to build relationships with my patients and my fellow physicians, and to communicate with them easily using our outstanding medical record system.
