About Markian G. Kunasz, MD
Dr. Kunasz is a board-certified plastic surgeon since 2004. He received his training in plastic/cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at the prestigious Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. After his training, he practiced at then Brooke Army Medical Center (now San Antonio Military Medical Center), where he held the position of Chief of Plastic Surgery for 15 years, and was an adjunct professor of Plastic Surgery for the UT Health Sciences Center. He was the consultant for the Great Plains Regional medical area for the United States Army, as well as the acting consultant to the Surgeon General for Plastic Surgery for the US Army on two occasions. He also served in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was the Theater Consultant for Plastic Surgery. He retired from the Army after 23 years of service. Initially training to be a classical musician, Dr. Kunasz changed gears and received his undergraduate degree at La Salle University in Philadelphia, having been raised near the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania. He then pursued his medical degree at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. He is passionate about classical music and is an avid cyclist. Dr. Kunasz has many years of experience in performing both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Kunasz has years of experience in performing both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He is kind and compassionate, with impeccable bedside manner. Dr. Kunasz began his education at La Salle University in Philadelphia, receiving a BA in Biology. He then moved to DC to attend medical school at Georgetown University. After finishing his general surgery residency, he received his training in plastic/cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at the prestigious Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He completed this training in 2004, and after, he practiced at then Brooke Army Medical Center (now San Antonio Military Medical Center), where he held the position of Chief of Plastic Surgery for 12 years, and also was an adjunct professor of Plastic Surgery for the UT Health Sciences Center. He deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and while there was the Theater Consultant for Plastic Surgery. He retired from the Army after 23 years of service. While on Active Duty, Dr. Kunasz was asked on two occasions to be the Acting Consultant to the Army Surgeon General for Plastic Surgery. He also received the Meritorious Service Medal for his contributions to the United States Army in plastic surgery. Most recently, he was named as one of San Antonio’s Best Plastic Surgeons for 2019. Classical music, cycling, growing orchids, and spending time with his children.
