About Kyra D. Barnes, DDS
Dr. Barnes has been setting the highest standards of excellence in dentistry since 1984. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, then went on to earn her Doctorate of Dental Science from the University of Illinois. An esteemed member of the dental community, Dr. Barnes has been appointed to both the State of Illinois Board of Dentistry and the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners. As a member of the State of Illinois Board of Dentistry, she helped to shape policy and maintain professional standards and licensure for all practitioners in the state. She also serves as an Examiner for the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners in such states as Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Maine, among others. Dr. Barnes has also been featured in N'Digo Maga Paper and received awards from the Student National Dental Association as well as the African American Association of Dental Hygienists. Among other honors, Dr. Barnes has been recognized for her excellence in practice by Jim Edgar, former Governor of the State of Illinois, the University of Illinois Urban Health Program, City Colleges of Chicago, the University of Illinois - receiving the ""Distinguished Alumni Award,"" ABC 7 News, WGN News and many other civic organizations. Outside the office, Dr. Barnes has dedicated many of her efforts to helping others who aspire to work in the field of dentistry. Among the contributions she has made in this regard, with the support of the former Chancellor of City Colleges, Dr. Barnes has founded and overseen the development of the Kennedy-King College dental hygiene program, now fully operational from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry site. This program has produced over 100 para-professionals across the city since its inception.
