About Keith C. Hood, MD
Dr. Hood a plastic and reconstructive surgeon here at Rush. We offer various stages of cancer care and cancer reconstruction. My role in that is breast cancer and colon cancer, lung cancer reconstruction. But I also see cosmetic patients and do cosmetic surgery here at Rush. I offer body contouring surgery after patients have bariatric surgery and lose a lot of weight — that’s a big part of my practice —abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, fillers and Botox injections to the face is something I do in the clinic. My job as a reconstructive surgeon is to put things back together and make people feel whole again, and I’d say most people are surprised by what is available to them — whether we’re using implants or we’re using their own tissue. One of the most the fulfilling things that happens to me is when somebody has had a cancer diagnosis, gone through a reconstruction, it’s a six-month to a year-long process sometimes, and so when they finally are done with their reconstruction, and then I tell them in the office, “Congratulations! You’re done. You graduated from me.” Sometimes they get up and give me a hug, and that’s about as fulfilling of a thing you can have from a patient.
