Dr. Smith is Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He joined Texas Health Care in 2005, and became an Assistant Clinic Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He also became the Assistant Fellowship Director of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery soon thereafter. He is one of the busiest facial plastic surgeons in North Texas, and is the Assistant Director of the only fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Dr. Smith regularly lectures in a wide variety of topics in Facial Plastic and Reconstruction each year within the United States as well as internationally. Dr. Smith is proudly involved in several humanitarian organizations. He is one of five regular surgeons serving the Children’s Rehabilitation Institute and Surgery Program (www.crispfoundation.org) and Futuro de Nicaragua. He started traveling routinely to Central America to treat children with facial deformities in 2004. Dr. Smith and other apt surgeons and medical personnel travel with the CRISP Foundation and Futuro de Nicaragua to Nicaragua. The goal is to help support the children and people of Nicaragua by running a week-long clinic and operating room that allows for the transformation of the lives of children and adults alike. We strive to also train Nicaraguan Plastic Surgeons while we are there, so that the country can allow its physicians and leaders to effectively treat their own people. The CRISP Foundation and Futuro de Nicaragua have performed over 1400 surgeries; barely scratching the surface of the tens of thousands who need assistance. We also provide additional medical care and surgery for other congenital anomalies and/or correctable injuries. All surgeries and medical care are free of charge to the people of Nicaragua.
