About Hakan M. Usal, MD
Dr. Usal was born in Ankara, Turkey. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty. He started his medical career as a practitioner at the Russian border of Turkey at Mount Ararat where Noah’s Ark ship was lost. He later trained in general surgery at hospitals in Istanbul and Ankara. Following this, he went to Aberdeen, Scotland, and trained in general surgery and plastic surgery. He then moved to the U.S.A. and continued his general surgery training at Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Usal continued his training in microsurgery at NYU Department of Plastic Surgery. He completed his training at University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) with a fellowship in plastic surgery. Dr. Usal has contributed to many publications, books and chapters. He is an internationally recognized plastic and reconstructive surgeon who is Board Certified by the The American Board of Plastic Surgery, and voluntary faculty at UMDNJ. Dr. Usal is the designated plastic surgeon for the CAP (Center for Abnormal Placentation) team at Hackensack UMC and is part of a board certified microsurgery team based in Rockland County that performs breast reconstruction for breast cancer patients. He is invited to give lectures on the latest techniques in minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. He has been a guest faculty at the International Masters Course on Aging Skin (IMCAS) in Paris, France. Dr. Usal has privileges at many local hospitals, including Good Samaritan Hospital, Staten Island Hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center, Valley Hospital, and Chilton Memorial Hospital. Dr. Usal lives in Bergen County with his family. He loves ocean sailing, and one day he hopes to sail to Bermuda with his son and daughter at the helm.
