About Cissy M. Tan, MD
I was born in Rangoon, Burma, which is now known as Yangon, Myanmar. I immigrated to the United States at the age of nine and grew up in Columbus, Ohio. I was able to start college at the age of 15 at Ohio State University. I was accepted into a special program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine , where I finished both my bachelor's and medical degrees. I completed my residency in the Halsted Surgical Training Program at Johns Hopkins. I then moved to Boston, where I had the fantastic privilege of training at the Children's Hospital Boston and the Brigham and Women's Hospital, both associated with Harvard University. My mentors and professors were world renowned in many aspects of plastic surgery . I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1989 because I wanted to focus on practicing medicine and delivering the highest level of care without having to worry about the business side of medicine . I was given the opportunity to create and start the plastic surgery department in 1992. I am extremely proud of the high performance of this fantastic group of people I work with. The nurses, physician assistant, service representatives, and other physicians in the department are wonderful examples of professionalism. The staff is a tremendous support in the thorough care of my patients. My son is an incredible joy in my life. I also love travel, skiing, photography, movies, scuba diving, real estate, and culinary adventures. I have been to over a hundred places around the world and even went around the world in six weeks by myself in 1989.
