About Benjamin B. Klayman, DMD
As I think about it now, my journey to dentistry started at a very early age. From tinkering with Legos to handy-work with my father and uncle, I was always good with my hands. As I got older, I was able to teach myself how to play a handful of musical instruments and practiced different art forms, like drawing and painting. Whatever I did in life, it would be working with my hands. I was born in Brooklyn, NY, but my family moved to Freehold, NJ after my first birthday. My parents are entrepreneurs, and the lifestyle of owning and operating one’s own business was extremely influential on me. Unlike other health professions, a dentist can be their own boss. Through high-school at CBA, my aptitude towards the sciences emerged and was fostered. Going to college at Drew University, I still wasn’t sure where life would lead. I had a pre-health focus, but I didn’t know if I would be going into research, medicine, dentistry, or any number of other fields. Luckily, a number of my aunts and uncles were in the health-care field, and I was really able to learn about their journeys. An uncle, my mother’s older brother, is a dentist, and it was a conversation in Cape Cod one summer break that solidified my decision to pursue dentistry. He helped me realize that dentistry is the perfect combination of arts, sciences, and entrepreneurship that I knew I needed to be happy in life. However, it wasn’t until my third year in dental school that I truly fell in love with this profession, at UMDNJ (now Rutgers). It amazes me how life-changing dentistry can be! I came back to Monmouth County to complete my post-graduate training at Monmouth Medical Center. I founded Red Bank Smiles in 2014, after buying a practice from a retiring dentist. Going to both grade school and high school in nearby Lincroft, I’m blessed to be able to practice in the area I grew up. Once entering private practice, I continued my dedication to education. I have am currently completing studies at 2 rigorous higher education institutions, and earned my Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) within 3 years of graduating from dental school. From the simplest of fillings to full-mouth reconstructions, I am blessed to have learned from the best. Outside of the office, I enjoy living in my quiet little beach town with my dog, Rex. I try to travel as much as possible, and enjoy new experiences. I enjoy weightlifting, meditating, and reading. I am an avid music fan, and sometimes you can even catch me playing at some local venues. I am sincerely thankful to be able to spend my time in the healing arts. I am dedicated to bringing you the best that dentistry can offer, and look forward to bringing you to optimum health!
