About Armando J. Alfaro, MD
Dr. Armando Alfaro is a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in Tucson, Arizona. While he is skilled in all aspects of plastic surgery, his practice is primarily balanced between cosmetic surgery of the face and body, and reconstructive surgery of the face and breasts. He is a respected and experienced plastic surgeon. He is also totally patient-centered, often spending an hour during the initial consultation and then meeting with the patient one or two times before their surgery. The goal at our practice is to ensure that patients feel confident in their decision to have plastic surgery. Dr. Alfaro and our caring staff ensure that all questions and concerns are addressed during the consultation. ""People are so much more informed these days - but there is also a lot of misinformation out there,"" Dr. Alfaro says. Magazines, the Internet, and conversations with friends are certainly helpful to get a general overview of plastic surgery options. But, it's the conversation with Dr. Alfaro that will clarify all the risks and benefits of any procedure. ""I'm a perfectionist, I admit it."" Dr. Alfaro says. Through the consultation, preparation, surgery and aftercare, he is committed to excellence in plastic surgery. Each procedure is a process, and every step is important to assure that patients feel comfortable and their needs are met. For all patients, the decision to make a positive change through plastic surgery is a major step in their lives. Therefore, it must be treated with great sensitivity. Dr. Alfaro wants every patient to look like the best version of themselves. Achieving this goal requires an open discussion about the patient's goals. The doctor says he is always honest with patients because he wants to meet their expectations. Sometimes they want a procedure that isn't consistent with their anatomy, or he does not feel the procedure is appropriate. In those cases, Dr. Alfaro explains his concerns and often recommends options that are more suitable. Dr. Alfaro received his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University in 1972. Then in 1976, he received his medical degree from the University of Arizona. After a residency program in general surgery at Emory University, Dr. Alfaro entered a plastic surgery residency, as an instructor and fellow, at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Dr. Alfaro also spent six months to further study facial reconstruction at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York. In 1985, Dr. Alfaro received board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and he began his practice in Tucson. Since the beginning of his career, Dr. Alfaro has been a member of several committees and associations. He was chairman of the division of Plastic Surgery at St. Mary's Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Tucson Medical Center. He is also clinical professor at the University of Arizona.
