Questions and Answers
Many men suffer from gynecomastia, or enlargement of breast tissue. Treatment options include liposuction alone, liposuction with a small incision around the areola to remove glandular tissue, and excision of skin, breast tissue, and fat +/- free nipple graft for more severe cases.
Breast implant selection is based on both careful measurements by a plastic surgeon, as well a patient's own desire and aesthetic goal of how she wants to look. Chest wall measurements determine how large of an implant can be placed, and for each particular set of chest dimensions, there is a range of implant volumes and projections that a patient can choose. Ultimately the selection process should be a joint effort by the patient and the plastic surgeon to ensure a safe and beautiful result.
Reductions can sometimes be classified as non-aesthetic and in these cases your insurance company may cover part or all of the cost of breast reduction surgery. For the procedure to be considered non-aesthetic it must be deemed medically necessary by the specific insurance provider; this typically means the procedure is being conducted to relieve physical problems such as back, neck or shoulder pain. If approved by the insurance carrier, they determine how much breast tissue must be removed for them to assist with paying for the procedure. This information is generally covered in detail during consultation with a plastic surgeon.
