About Travis Shaw, MD
Dr. Shaw is also a proud participant of Access Now, a program by the Richmond Academy of Medicine dedicated to providing specialized medical care for disadvantaged individuals who lack health insurance and would otherwise be ineligible to receive the help they need. Volunteer physicians in the Access Now program have donated over $15 Million in free specialty healthcare. Not only did Dr. Shaw spend a significant portion of his residency at Massey Cancer Center operating on patients with head and neck cancer, but it’s also the facility where his father underwent cancer treatment. Today, Dr. Shaw’s practice is a sponsor of Massey on the River, a wonderful charity event that raised over $90,000 in 2017 for patients battling cancer. Our Esthetician, Franki, works tirelessly to organize blood drives throughout the calendar year. As healthcare providers, we take responsibility in leading donation efforts which ultimately save lives. A single donation of blood can save up to 3 lives, so when we all play our part, a seemingly small act can make a world of impact on a family whose loved one is waiting for a blood transfusion. From the VBS website: “It takes more than 400 donations every day to meet the needs of patients in Charlottesville, Emporia, Farmville, Fishersville, Harrisonburg, Richmond, South Hill, the Staunton/Waynesboro area, Roanoke/New River Valley, Northern Shenandoah Valley area and parts of West Virginia and Washington DC.” Outside of medicine, Dr. Shaw is an avid purveyor of the outdoors and fresh air. As a cyclist himself, he’s found purpose in leading the Richmond chapter of Cycling Without Age. If you’re interested in contributing, check out the GoFundMe campaign here.
