About Tamara K. Scalise, MD
Although I was born in Hong Kong, I consider myself to be from New York. After my undergraduate studies at Duke University and medical school at Stony Brook University, I completed an internship at National Naval Medical Center in Maryland. I followed that up with my dermatology specialty training at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. My background as an active duty physician for the US Navy ended after 13 years, with an honorable discharge at the rank of Commander. I completed multiple deployments in the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf, spent six years as a flight surgeon , including a tour with the Blue Angels, and was head of the DermatologyOutpatient Clinic at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. As a civilian private practice physician, I served as the dermatology section chief at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Outside of my work at Kaiser Permanente, I enjoy volunteering with the American Academy of Dermatology for skin cancer screenings. I am committed to providing quality, compassionate, and comprehensive dermatologic care in a warm and welcoming environment. I enjoy spending time with my husband, who is a commercial airline pilot, and our young daughter. In addition, I stay active by training in kung fu, tai chi, and Bikram hot yoga.
