Questions and Answers
The outpatient procedure is performed by Dr. Vitenas under general anesthesia administered by our board-certified anesthesiologist. Depending on your unique situation and the technique used, breast surgery can take from one to two hours. Once the anesthesia has been administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Vitenas will meticulously place the predetermined incisions: Inframammary: A 1-2 inch incision along the breast crease, providing a wide access point to place larger silicone or gummy bear implants. This incision placement has been shown to produce the least amount of complications in breast augmentation surgery and is now used in over 87% of all breast augmentation procedures worldwide.
Most swelling will diminish over the first two to three weeks. However, residual swelling can continue for six to twelve months. Most patients can resume light activities in only a day or two, returning to work in two to three days. Strenuous activities, exercise, and heavy lifting need to be postponed for four to six weeks. Through his 30 years of experience, Dr. Vitenas has developed a very precise dissection technique that creates the correct size pocket for each implant, thereby negating the necessity of wearing a bra during the first six weeks of healing. This enables the breast pocket to heal without restriction, allowing the implant to shift organically in the chest for a natural-looking breast. During your post-op follow-up appointments, Dr. Vitenas will monitor your healing progression and discuss when you may start wearing a bra.
The abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a surgical technique used to eliminate unsightly skin and fat of the abdomen in order to restore a more youthful shape. During the procedure, C-section scars can be removed, the groin area reshaped, and the anterior abdomen wall muscles tightened. There are a variety of techniques for abdominoplasty including the full tummy tuck, the mini tummy tuck, and a combination of procedures along with liposuction.
Dr. Vitenas uses the “super wet” technique for liposuction. For this technique, the treatment area is first infused with a solution containing saline, Lidocaine, and epinephrine which causes the fat to become swollen and firm. A small cannula, or hollow tube, is then inserted through small half-inch incisions and the fat is suctioned out. The super wet technique allows for the safe removal of large volumes of fat without the need for blood transfusions.
