About Mark Abdelmalek, MD
Dr. Mark Abdelmalek is a highly regarded board-certified dermatologist, skin cancer surgeon, and ABC News reporter. As a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, Dr. Mark specializes in the precise surgical removal of skin cancer with expert reconstruction. Dr. Mark spent more than a decade in academic medicine culminating as the Interim Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Drexel University. While at the forefront of academic medicine in Philadelphia, he partnered with premier faculty to train a generation of excellent dermatologists and conduct clinical research. Dr. Abdelmalek’s clinical interests are caring for high-risk skin cancer patients and comprehensive skin care for organ transplant patients. Dr. Mark is also an award-winning medical and investigative reporter at ABC News. Dr. Mark plays an integral role in ABC News COVID coverage- a defining story of our time and his journalism career. Over the last decade, he has worked alongside ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer sharing important stories of our time with television audiences for Good Morning America, ABC World News, 20/20, and Nightline. In 2016, Dr. Mark received an Alfred I. duPont Columbia Award, one of the most prestigious honors in journalism, widely regarded as the equivalent of the Pulitzer Prizes for broadcast news. Dr. Mark has been nominated for a Peabody Award and three Emmy awards including in 2018 for an ABC News Hidden America special on hard working Americans struggling to stay in the middle class. Dr. Mark was honored by his peers in 2016 with the prestigious Philadelphia Dermatological Society ‘Founders Award’ for “devoting extraordinary time and talent as a teacher and clinician” and has been recognized by Castle Connolly and Philadelphia magazine as one of Philadelphia’s “Top Doctors” and “Rising Stars in Medicine.” Dr. Mark feels honored to bring academic excellence, compassion and conversation to the greater Philadelphia area community and patients.
