About Maria A. Segovia, DDS

Welcome to Oasis Dental Spa! Thank you for trusting us with your oral health. I’m looking forward to meeting you. I understand that life gets very busy sometimes. You put everyones needs first and before you know it you are in need of some help to regain your oral health. I also know patients often avoid going to the dentist because of fear of the unknown or inflicted pain. I have experience that fear through my own mother. She was afraid of going to the dentist due to traumatic experiences when she was young. Fortunately, she was able to overcome this fear and anxiety by exposing her to a gentle touch, a lot of patience and various relaxing techniques. I invite you to visit my practice. My office has been designed with you in mind. I created an inviting, peaceful, private and unique environment that will help you feel safe. My commitment is to take care of you and your family the same way I take care of mine. I want to gain your trust and build a long term relationship with you. I graduated from the Central University of Venezuela where I obtained my DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry) in 1997. I shortly opened my first practice (Consultorio Odontologico Valle Arriba). In 1999 I became a clinical professor at my alma matter. In 2001, I had the honor of becoming director of one of the clinical wards teaching and coordinating the evaluations of the dental students. In 2009 I enrolled into the Advance Standing Program for International Dentists at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC (University of Southern California). During my studies, I became teacher assistant of the Fixed Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry Pre-clinical classes until I obtained my DDS degree in 2011. I was founder and president of the Hispanic Student Dental Association HSDA-USC Chapter. During those 2 years, HSDA was dedicated to volunteering for the underserved communities, treating and educating them over the importance oral health. I also volunteered teaching Spanish to the student doctors. This helped improve their communication skills with their hispanic patients. Shortly after graduation, I moved to Arizona and worked as a dentist for a community health center until April 2016. During this time, I became an Adjunct External Clinical Faculty for ASDOH (Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health). I provided mentorship to 4th year students, supervising and evaluating their clinical performance before graduating. I have an Arizona Dental License and a Venezuelan Dental License I am passionate about dentistry and it is very important for me to keep up with the latest advances by enrolling in continuing education courses. I do my best to be up to date and provide the most comprehensive care to my patients. I believe everyone has the right to oral health and to quality dental work regardless of their background and means. For this reason, I’ve always had special interest in the underserved communities. I lived in the Amazon Jungle for 3 months providing dental care to the Venezuelan natives. I have traveled in several opportunities to Mexico to volunteer my services as a dentist. I hope to continue to be of service to the communities in need. I feel joy every time I think of my beautiful family. I have been married for 15 years to a loving and hard working man. We are blessed with 2 amazing little girls. Like any working parent, I balance the time with my family and work. With young children, there is no such thing as staying still, hence we are always on the go. I also believe in personal growth, so I like to try different things, visit new places and meet people from different cultures. I enjoy my free time with my family and friends. I speak 3 languages (English, Spanish and French). I believe understanding other cultures has helped me grow as a person as well as provide better care to my patients. I look forward to the end- of -the year holidays. Some might say I go a little overboard with decorations during Halloween and Christmas, but the kids love it! I was raised with a strong sense of family values and work ethics. I am a hard worker and a perfectionist so I try to give it my all to anything I do. I look forward to meeting you and your family soon. Thank you for trusting me with your oral health.
