About Laurel A. Leithauser, MD
A board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained skin cancer and reconstructive surgeon. Her primary focuses are Mohs micrographic surgery and facial reconstructive surgery, though she practices all aspects of dermatology, including injectable, laser and surgical cosmetic services. Dr. Leithauser has a unique skill set as both a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon and procedural dermatologist. She has extensive training in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, Mohs surgery, facial reconstructive surgery as well as procedural dermatology, including a variety of cosmetic procedures. After graduating high school as valedictorian, Dr. Leithauser attended the Honors College at Michigan State University where she graduated with honors and a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology. She then attended medical school at Wayne State University where she received a variety of honors including induction into the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society and Gold Humanism Honors Society, was elected Chair of the Michigan State Medical Society Medical Student Section and was the only student in her graduating class to receive the Excellence in Dermatology award. She graduated in the top 10% of her class. After receiving her MD, Dr. Leithauser spent the next 5 years at the University of Cincinnati where she completed her internal medicine internship, dermatology residency, and Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgery (procedural dermatology) fellowship. During this time, she was elected and served as chief resident, published multiple scholarly articles and textbook chapters, and was one of only 7 fellows in the nation to be nominated for the prestigious Tromovich award by the American College of Mohs Surgery. After finishing training, Dr. Leithauser and her family returned to their home state of Michigan. While Dr. Leithauser and her husband both grew up in metropolitan Detroit, they always cherished their summers “up north.” They were thrilled to have the opportunity to move to Traverse City in 2015, and now consider TC to be their hometown. Dr. Leithauser and her husband, Dr. Anthony Livorine, are active members of the local medical community and the St. Francis parish. They have 4 young children and feel incredibly blessed to live and work in such a wonderful community. Dr. Leithauser looks forward to getting to know you and taking care of your dermatologic needs.
