About Kian Eftekhari, MD
Dr. Kian Eftekhari is an Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and face. Dr. Eftekhari is board-certified and has extensive experience in eyelid surgery, cancers around the eyelids, thyroid eye disease, lower eyelid malposition, tearing, and facial paralysis. Dr. Eftekhari utilizes a customized, patient-centered approach to both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, aiming to use non-surgical and minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. He also uses a combination of non-surgical and surgical approaches to facial rejuvenation including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and fat transfer surgery. Dr. Eftekhari completed his undergraduate degree in Human Biology at Stanford University, where he was selected by his peers as the departmental graduation speaker. During his undergraduate career, he studied at Oxford University. During that time, Dr. Eftekhari studied film and philosophy, which informs his approach to achieving excellent aesthetic results for his patients. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, one of the top three medical schools in the country. In medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the most prestigious honor society in medicine. Dr. Eftekhari was also the recipient of the Agnew Fellowship for surgical research and the Charles Oliver Award for excellence in ophthalmology research. Dr. Eftekhari completed his residency training at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania where he was mentored by pioneers in the field of oculoplastic surgery including Dr. Jim Katowitz, a specialist on pediatric eyelid disease. Dr. Eftekhari then completed an additional two years of subspecialty training in Oculoplastic and Facial Surgery with Dr. Richard Anderson in Salt Lake City. After 10 years of training, Dr. Eftekhari became an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Kittner Eye Center. He trained many residents on the nuances of eyelid surgery and conducted research on outcomes of oculoplastic surgery and facial trauma. During that time, Dr. Eftekhari recognized that his strongest passion is to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, serving on multiple committees within this prestigious society.
