About John E. Leland, DDS
Dr. John Leland is passionate about helping people overcome the frustrations of poor dental health. Influenced by his own family dentist, Dr. Leland has made it his life’s work to improve the dental health of his patients while creating long-lasting relationships based on trust, honesty, and excellence. Dr. Leland and his team have worked together for many years and have a shared vision for creating ideal dental health. Though not related by blood, every person at Leland Dental Care, including staff members, patients, and Dr. Leland, is treated like family. Dr. Leland attended dental school at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He completed a general practice residency in the Air Force, which provided him with training to perform many procedures most dentists refer to specialists, including root canals on all teeth, implant placement and restoration, and IV sedation. Dr. Leland is proud to be recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, (FAGD). Fellowship in the AGD is an award given to a small percentage of dentists who have demonstrated a commitment to continuing education. Dr. Leland achieved this award more than 30 years ago and has completed numerous forms of ongoing continuing education ever since graduation from dental school. Dr. Leland is a native of Houston, and has lived in Bandera County with his wife Robin since 1984. Their son, Jeremy Leland, MD, DDS, is an oral surgeon, and their daughter, Jessica Cantu, MD, is a maternal/fetal medicine specialist. Jeremy is married to Sarah, a successful businesswoman, and Jessica is married to Marcus, a doctor of physical therapy. Dr. Leland also has two grandsons and three granddaughters. They call him “Pa” and keep him quite busy! To keep Dr. Leland and Robin company at home, they have dogs, chickens, horses, rabbits, pigs, turtles, a turkey, a lizard, and a cat! In his free time, Dr. Leland enjoys all activities related to water sports, including surfing, skiing, and fishing. In the community of Lakehills, located in Bandera County, where he lives and practices, Dr. Leland is very proud of the work he has done to establish the local little league known as Lakehills/Pipe Creek Little League, Inc. He was also instrumental in the development of the local baseball and softball complex where the youth of his community play. In fact, the Senior League field was named the John Leland Field in his honor. Dr. Leland is also very passionate about providing charitable dentistry for the people of El Salvador. He has fallen in love with the people there and has formed a nonprofit corporation called Leland Dental Charities, Inc. In 2009, Dr. Leland purchased a used mobile dental clinic that had been retired from service from the U.S. Navy. Dr. Leland and friends have restored this clinic to a modern dental facility on wheels, complete with digital X-rays, a sterilization area, and two treatment operatories. After restoration, the clinic was shipped from San Antonio to El Salvador, in 2014. The purpose of Leland Dental Charities, Inc. is to support this mobile dental clinic and the volunteers that provide the free dental care to the people of El Salvador. See www.dentalvolunteerelsalvador.org. Because of his service to the worldwide community, Dr. Leland has been given the ADA Certificate of International Volunteer Service. While this award is greatly appreciated, Dr. Leland is truly rewarded each and every time he makes a difference in the life of someone in need.
