About Jennifer L. Wheeler, DMD
Dr. Wheeler moved to St. Louis to attend Missouri Baptist University where she was recruited to play soccer. She was awarded a Full-Academic Scholarship and graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors while earning her Bachelors of Science in Biology. She then returned to her home state of Kentucky to attend the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. During dental school, Dr. Wheeler served as her class’ Secretary and participated in community outreach programs at local shelters and women’s crisis clinics. She also volunteered for “Smile! Kentucky,” which provided free dental services to underprivileged children, and also volunteered at the Kentucky State Fair which provided oral cancer screenings and sealants for kids. Following dental school, Dr. Wheeler returned to St. Louis and completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) at Mercy Medical Center. Only 10% of dentists complete a GPR program, so Dr. Wheeler feels very fortunate to have been selected! This elite program gave her additional training in all areas of dentistry, including oral surgery, root canals, veneers, crown and bridge restorations, cosmetic dentistry, and emergency medical and dental treatments. Dr. Wheeler’s patients benefit from her additional training and knowledge while receiving the highest quality of care possible. Dr. Wheeler takes great pride in staying abreast of the latest dental techniques and technology. She completes above and beyond the required hours of continuing education a year and is a member of several local study clubs to continue her growth in her field. She also regularly attends courses and seminars as a member of a local chapter of the Spears study club, and travels to the Spear Education Center in Scottsdale, AZ- one of the best continuing education centers in the country for additional training. Active in the local chapter of dental leadership at the Greater St. Louis Dental Society, Dr. Wheeler was previously a board member of the Council on Membership as well as the Young Dentist Committee. Currently, she a member of the GSLDS Leadership Committee. She was selected to represent St. Louis in the House of Delegates Dental Congress for the 2018 term held in Jefferson City, MO. On a more personal note, one of Dr. Wheeler’s greatest passions is for serving on dental mission trips that provide care to underserved communities and populations. Past mission trips include having traveled to the Dominican Republic to provide dental services, as well as to Eastern Kentucky’s mountainous regions as a volunteer dentist for Pikeville’s Outreach Medical Team. More locally, she has participated in Give Kids A Smile, and MOMOM (Missouri’s Mission of Mercy) which also provide dental services free of charge to those in need. Dr. Wheeler has another mission trip planned for December 2017 to return to the Dominican Republic to once again serve this impoverished population. In addition to giving her time and service to the underserved, Dr. Wheeler also regularly works on weekends with our military as a dentist to the Army Reserve, National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and Navy & Marine Reserve units stationed throughout Missouri. Many of her relatives, including her husband, have served, or are still serving in the armed forces and this is one way she likes to show her gratitude for their service. Dr. Wheeler and her team would be honored to be your oral health care providers! She attributes our successful, growing practice to hard work, an excellent team, attention to detail, and most importantly, respecting our patients and treating them like family. Building a trusting relationship is of utmost importance, which is why we do not offer gimmicks and marketing strategies just to fill a seat in our office. What you will find, is a hard-working, yet fun-loving approach to treating your dental needs. The greatest compliments we receive, are the referrals of our patients’ family and friends!
