About Jeffrey P. North, MD
Dr. Jeffrey P. North is a dermatologist and a dermatopathologist, a specialist in diagnosing skin disorders by analyzing samples under a microscope. In addition to treating patients for all types of skin disease, he interprets skin biopsies sent to UCSF from across the United States. After earning a bachelor's degree in molecular biology and chemistry at Brigham Young University, North came to UCSF for medical school. As a first-year medical student, he began working on melanoma genetics with world-renowned physician-scientist Boris Bastian, studying the evolution of melanoma on the hands and feet. North's growing interest in dermatology led to a residency in dermatology at Oregon Health & Science University, where he served as chief resident. North returned to UCSF for a fellowship in dermatopathology, followed by a year as a clinical instructor. After serving for one year as director of dermatopathology at the University of Missouri, North returned to UCSF.
