About James R. Stewart, DDS
Dr. James R. Stewart, Jr., graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. degree in microbiology, and then earned his D.D.S. degree from its School of Dentistry in 1987. The following year he completed a general practice residency at the Sinai Hospital of Detroit. Dr. Stewart regularly takes continuing education classes so he can provide the best care for his patients and offer them the latest advances in dental treatment. He has completed the curriculum at the prestigious Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Studies, and continues to take additional courses there. In addition, Dr. Stewart completed the Advanced Prosthetic Training Program at the Postdoctoral Dental Studies Institute. He also participates in several local study clubs. Dr. Stewart has earned a fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, an honor achieved by fewer than 10 percent of dentists in the country. He is active in his local dental society and serves as chairman of the Peer Review Committee. Dr. Stewart is also a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Treatment of sleep apnea and snoring is one of his passions and he continues to study and take advanced-level courses in this field. In addition, Dr. Stewart was awarded fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy. The honor is bestowed by invitation only and is only awarded to dentists who have “made outstanding contributions to the art and science of dentistry or to society.” Dr. Stewart also studies and collaborates with the West Michigan Orthotropic Study Center. A strong believer in giving back to the community, Dr. Stewart works with Donated Dental Services, a national program for disabled adults who need, but cannot afford, dental services. He and his staff also participate every year in the Give Kids A Smile program, providing dental care for children from low-income families. At halloween Dr. Stewart and his office hold a Halloween Candy Buy Back which helps support Operation Gratitude and also keeps his patient’s smiles healthy. Dr. Stewart and his wife, Janet, have two sons, Paul and Mark, who are both Albion College graduates and live in the area. When not in the office, Dr. Stewart enjoys traveling, golf, bowling, snow skiing and following University of Michigan football and basketball, all with friends and family.
