About Howard D. Krein, MD
Dr. Krein is part of an exclusive group of physicians with two doctorate degrees and double board certified in Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Krein was also the title of Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2012, which is a great honor. He received his MD from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and his PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. After medical school, he completed internships in both Emergency Medicine and General Surgery as well as a residency in Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Krein was then chosen for a highly competitive and specialized Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia. During his fellowship at MCV/VCU, his entire experience focused on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck. There he honed his skills in the latest techniques in rhinoplasty, aging face, cosmetic surgery, and facial reconstruction. A native of New Jersey, Dr. Krein is a Board Certified, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia Pa. As such, Dr. Krein specializes solely in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck. This assures his patients the specific and focused expertise that they should expect. He treats all ages from neonates to adults. As Associate Professor in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Philadelphia’s prestigious Thomas Jefferson University, Dr. Krein is considered to be an outstanding teacher and lecturer. He routinely gives lectures and teaches courses on many of the intricacies of facial plastic surgery to both medical students, residents and other physicians. His practice encompasses the entire spectrum of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, including rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facial rejuvenation surgery, fat transfers, facial augmentation, wrinkle treatment, corrective surgery for facial defects, ear reshaping, microtia repair, microsurgery, reconstruction of cancer patients and extensive post-traumatic deformities. He also is considered to be one of the experts when it comes to Botox and injectable fillers (Restylane, Juvaderm, Radiesse, Sculptra). In addition to his busy surgical practice, Dr. Krein has also been actively involved in several humanitarian organizations. His passion lies in helping others who have either congenital or acquired facial defects. Both here in Philadelphia, as well as abroad, he donates his time and skills to do surgery and treat those in need. He is one of two surgeons who twice a year spends a week in Belize performing reconstructive surgery on children with facial deformities.
