About Holly Downes, DDS
I began my college career studying anthropology and genetics at UC San Diego. My junior year project involved a genetics study at the San Diego Zoo. While there, I was invited to observe the zoo’s dentist, and was later offered a position working with him on the teeth of tigers, mountain gorillas, and rhinos. I found my calling! Combining a love of art and working with my hands, together with a keen interest in science and people, I chose a career in dentistry. After graduating from the University of the Pacific Dental School, I continued my studies in dentistry with courses in full mouth reconstruction, dental implants, TMJ dysfunction, and sleep apnea issues. I am a graduate of the Pride Institute and the Dawson Academy for Clinical Excellence, as well as having studied at SPEAR, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the Pankey Institute’s Advanced Dental Education Program. I grew up in Michigan in a large, extended family, then moved to California. I have lived in Mill Valley for over 30 years and enjoy spending time with my teenage daughter, walking the hills with our dog Ivy, swimming, canoeing, and traveling internationally.
