About Dawn M. Mikaitis, DMD
As a dentist, my goal is to enhance the lives of the people I have the privilege to serve. They, in turn, touch my life in so many ways, as we learn from each other and journey through our lives together. I have the honor of meeting many interesting people, of all ages, from all walks of life. As they share with me about their lives, families, and interests, my own life is enhanced. Our conversations create a bond that goes beyond healthcare provider and patient: My patients are remarkable individuals and I see and relate to them as such. I love how my work improves each patient’s well-being. There is a close connection between the health of one’s mouth and the body. A healthy mouth means a healthier body and vice versa. I want each patient to have optimal wellness, so I work closely with each to identify areas where we can make positive changes. By focusing on home dental hygiene, improving nutrition, developing good habits, and maintaining regular dental visits, patients are able to achieve healthier smiles and bodies. My team is comprised of professionals who maintain the highest levels of accreditation and actively pursue continuing education. Each team member is also warm and personable, and strives to establish rapport with our patients. We want people to enjoy their visits and look forward to coming to see us. Our skills and personalities complement one another, which enables us to provide an informative, comfortable, and positive dental experience that’s customized for each patient. My Doctorate of Dental Medicine was awarded by the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. That education provided an excellent foundational understanding of the science and practice of modern dentistry. However, oral healthcare is a constantly evolving field. Advances in techniques, technology, and materials all mean better diagnostics, results, and comfort for patients. Throughout the year, I complete many hours of continuing dental education to stay current on these changes. I attend monthly lectures through the Dental Society of Greater Waterbury. In additional, I recently completed a core curriculum of six hands-on courses with the Los Angeles Institute of Clinical Dentistry. I grew up in Waterbury and now live in Plantsville with my husband of 20 years, Chuck. We met in high school and, as they say, the rest has been history! We have a lively teenage son, Ryan, who is a sports lover like me. Our home is also shared with two crazy cats, Sylvester and Chi Chi. When I’m not caring for patients, I love being home, laughing with my family, and hanging out with friends. I enjoy working in the yard, following my sports teams, and teaching children’s Sunday school at my church.
