About Darnell Kaigler, DDS
Darnell Kaigler Jr., D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D. is a tenured, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan (U of M) in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine, School of Dentistry and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering. A native of Detroit Michigan, Dr. Kaigler earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta GA, and later became the 1st student to complete a dual D.D.S./Ph.D. degree in Oral Health Sciences at the University of Michigan. Dr. Kaigler currently teaches in the dental school and is the Director of the U of M dental implant and reconstructive surgery programs. Through these specialized programs, he trains dental students, surgical residents, and dental surgeons who come from around the world to learn how to perform innovative surgical and reconstructive dental-implant related procedures for which his team and the University are internationally-recognized. At the U of M, Dr. Kaigler also has a federally-funded, internationally-recognized research program (http://media.dent.umich.edu/labs/kaigler/) focused on the development of regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies to treat patients. While engaged in his University-related teaching and research activities, Dr. Kaigler, Jr. has also held a strong commitment to serving his community by maintaining his clinical practice in Detroit for 15 years with his father, Dr. Kaigler, Sr., who is a specialist in prosthodontics. In working with his father, other dentists, and other dental and medical specialists over the years, Dr. Kaigler, Jr. has realized the importance of providing specialty-level dental care to patients. As such, he has assembled additional clinical team members and colleagues to extend upon his and his father's practice to provide specialty-level dental care on a larger scale to the Greater Metropolitan Detroit community and beyond. His team has come together to establish the Detroit Dental Specialty Center (D.D.S. Center), which is home to the latest advancements in dental therapies and technologies in all facets of dentistry. The unique multidisciplinary treatment team which he leads has attracted patients not only from the Greater Metropolitan Detroit area, but from around all regions of the state and country.
