About Barbara S. Yates, MD
Dr. Barbara Yates is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained in both neuro-ophthalmology and oculoplastics. She specializes in small incision cataract surgery, including toric and multifocal intraocular lenses and limbal relaxing incisions. She also addresses pterygium, eyelid reconstruction, tearing problems, orbital tumors, thyroid eye disease, unexplained vision loss and double vision. Her undergraduate degree was from UCLA, Los Angeles. She completed medical school training at UCSD, where she later returned to Los Angeles for her internship and residency. She graduated ophthalmology training from Jules Stein Eye Institute, Los Angeles, and completed her neuro-ophthalmology and oculoplastics fellowship in Dallas, Texas at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Yates chose Ophthalmology as her career to improve the quality of lives of others with compassion. She has spoken at several ophthalmology meetings, on the topics of Neuro-ophthalmology and Oculoplastics. She is a member of several societies including American Academy of Ophthalmology, California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, Women in Ophthalmology, and Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology. In her spare time she enjoys golf, dancing, yoga and traveling with her husband Zachary.
