About Audrey E. Ahuero, MD
Dr. Ahuero, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, obtained her bachelor’s degree at Stanford University and her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She finished in the top 10% of her class and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Her residency training in Ophthalmology was completed at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Ahuero then completed a distinguished Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship offered through the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). This highly competitive fellowship is exclusively dedicated to plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, orbit, lacrimal system (tear drain) and upper face. Dr. Ahuero has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as the Digital Journal of Ophthalmology. Dr. Ahuero’s specific interests include facial rejuvenation, eyelid lifts, eyelid malposition correction, skin cancer reconstruction and treatment of tearing disorders. She welcomes adult and pediatric patients. A Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Ahuero is also a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and a member of the American College of Surgeons and American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is the President-Elect of the Houston Ophthalmological Society and a Delegate to the TMA from the Harris County Medical Society. She is involved in civic organizations such as Daughters of the American Revolution and the Junior League of Houston, and volunteers through Faith in Practice for medical mission trips to Guatemala where she performs dozens of surgeries for patients in need. Dr. Ahuero is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the UT Houston Department of Ophthalmology and is a Preceptor for the ASOPRS fellowship program at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Ahuero enjoys spending time with her family and three dogs, exploring Houston restaurants, ballet, reading, exercising and traveling.
