About Stephen Matthews, DDS
Dr. Stephen Matthews earned his degree at the University of Missouri–Kansas City Dental School in 1987, after graduating from the Univiversity of Missouri–Columbia in 1983 with a degree in Biology. He grew up in St. Louis, went to high school at Parkway West and graduated in 1979. Dr. Matthews is board certified and has always exceeded state requirements for continuing education, focusing on cosmetic procedures, veneers, implants, endodontics, oral surgery, dentures, pharmacology and sterilization procedures. He is married to Julie Matthews, an occupational therapist. Dr. Matthews is very active, often seen biking, hiking, camping, golfing and running sprint triathlons. He co-founded Project Hope, an organization that offers free dental, medical, and mental health care for underprivileged children of Washington County, MO. He has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Missouri–Kansas City Dental School each year since 2002. My philosophy is to take the time to communicate with my patients. It’s very important to determine exactly what they want. I am educated in all of the most advanced procedures available, so that I can explain all of the options. I make sure that each patient understands all of their choices and the financial investment that they will be making, because no one likes surprises. Together we will decide the all around best way to take care of them. Once we have decided our course of treatment, I believe in doing everything to make our patients relaxed and comfortable.
